Barbara Bennett x Her Moves

We’re so excited to have teamed up with Barbara Bennett to create personalised Her Moves Shoes! We spoke to Barbara this week about the collaboration and her relationship with physical activity and how her mindset has changed in recent years!

Barbara Bennett is an artist and designer originally from Galway whose incredible and innovative sneaker customisations gained international attention after launching her first collection in June 2020. We collaborated with Barbara to create some personalised Her Moves Nikes and it was so brilliant to be able to gift these shoes to 4 winners of our social media competition across the last 4 weeks!

We spoke to Barbara about the collaboration with Her Moves, the importance of the initiative, her relationship with sport and activity during secondary school, and how returning to activity recently in the last few years has helped improve her lifestyle!

"When Her Moves reached out to me, I was immediately captivated by the concept and saw it as a fantastic opportunity for collaboration. Her Moves represents a vital initiative, one that encourages teenage girls to embrace a more active lifestyle. Looking back, I can't help but wish this initiative existed during my own transition from secondary school to college. In those early college days, I unwittingly put my physical well-being on the backburner as I focused solely on my college work.

It was only last year that I realized the significance of staying active and its myriad benefits. I've always had a passion for physical activities, having cherished my school days filled with sports like Hockey, Tennis, and Gaelic Football. Recently, I even rekindled my love for sports by taking up basketball in the evenings with friends, and we occasionally hit the pitch and putt course together. The gym has become a non-negotiable part of my daily routine, whether squeezed in during my lunch break or post-work hours.

The effects of this newfound commitment to staying active have definitely been transformative. It's not just my physical health that has improved, but my mental well-being as well. I used to be glued to my desk for endless hours, often neglecting even the basic act of standing up, as work consumed my life. Now ,I've struck a balance between my professional responsibilities and staying active. I'm brimming with energy, feeling physically stronger, and radiating a new found positivity. The experience serves as a testament to the importance of maintaining an active and balanced lifestyle for both mind and body. I'm so happy I've finally found something that moves me!"
