Her Moves – Launch of “It’s Complicated” at the National Basketball Arena

On Friday, October 11th, we proudly launched our new campaign - “It’s Complicated”—with a special event at the National Basketball Arena. To celebrate, we welcomed over 150 teenage girls from six schools for an inspiring and action-packed day.

The event was filled with energy as the girls had the opportunity to try basketball, coached by current female players. Many experienced wheelchair basketball for the first time, which offered a fun challenge and broadened their understanding of the sport. The incredible Pilar Lokko (@pilarlokko_personaltrainer) led the girls through a lively Dance Fit class—getting hearts pumping and creating plenty of laughs as they danced to the music. At Her Moves, we believe there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to sport, so our goal was to introduce the girls to a variety of activities, showing them that being active can be fun and enjoyable.

After the physical activities, the girls embraced their creative side by designing their dream pair of Air Force Ones. With the talented artist Barbara Bennett (@barbarabennett__) selecting her favourite design to recreate, the competition inspired an outpouring of unique and imaginative artwork. It was fantastic to witness the creativity and enthusiasm in every design.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to meet Paralympic cyclist Katie-George Dunlevy. Katie, a three-time Paralympic medalist, flew over from the UK to share her inspiring story with the girls. She spoke about her journey into tandem cycling, the challenges she has overcome, and the exhilaration of her Paralympic successes. The girls were in awe of Katie and her accomplishments, asking her questions and taking photos with her and her medals. A huge thank you to Katie for making the day so special—her presence truly inspired the girls.

The event concluded with the premiere of our new campaign video, “It’s Complicated”. This powerful film, created by teenage girls for teenage girls, highlights the complex relationship many girls have with sport—the pressures they face, the challenges of staying engaged, and the reasons so many are walking away. At Her Moves, we recognise these struggles and are here to help girls find joy in movement and discover what works for them.

We hope all the girls left feeling empowered and reminded that while sport can be challenging, it’s also about having fun.
